A man dies after Falling From A Sydney Tower,In Austrailia

A man has died after falling from Sydney Tower – with reports suggesting he removed his safety harness and jumped.

Paramedics responded to calls that a man was threatening to self-harm at the popular tourist attraction in the Australian city at 2.40pm local time on Thursday.

New South Wales Police has confirmed they are investigating the man’s death in the central business district.

Sydney Tower, which stands at 309m (1,013ft) high, features a skywalk experience that allows people to take in views of the city from above.


The man, who has not yet been named, is said to have landed on a canopy below after he unstrapped his harness and jumped.

Paramedics treated witnesses for shock and Sydney Tower Eye has been closed.

Inspector Robert Winkler said the person’s death was “a very traumatic situation”, and added: “The situation is it appears to be a self-harm related matter.

“As a result there was a large-scale response from police and emergency services.”

Inspector Winkler added: “Support has been given to a number of witnesses at this point, as well as police and emergency services.

“If you are in need of assistance from what you have seen, please contact your local GP or local hospital to seek support.”

A Merlin Entertainment spokeswoman confirmed an incident took place at the Sydney Tower Eye.

She said: “We are working closely with the police on this matter and it is being investigated accordingly.

“At this stage the Sydney Tower Eye Observation Deck and Skywalk are closed.”
